Idea of

competition

The main idea of the ballet competition called „THE HOPE OF THE BALLET“ is the presentation and support of talented students in the field of dance art. The competition aims to connect, celebrate, highlight and present the talent of the involved dancers, and support the cooperation between their schools.

For who is

competition

The competition is open for students and graduates from conservatories and dance schools, as well as for professionals and active dancers. It is designed for dancers of all states and nationalities, under the age of  25 on the day of competition. The competition has four categories. Category A students of conservatories with an 8-year study program (from 1st to 4th year)  Category Bstudents of conservatories with an 8-year study program (from 5th to 8th year)  Category Cstudents of conservatories with a 6-year study program  Category D amateur dance ensembles and schools focusing on the classical dance • small choreography (1-4 dancers) • great choreography (5-20 dancers)   Categories A, B, C are for solo dancers. Category D is for groups. ►

 

How to

register?

Only participant, who submits correctly  completed application form and provides payment receipt of the registration fee, is allowed to  take part in the competition. With submission of the application the participant  agrees with the terms and conditions of the contest. In case of their violation his/hers participation can be terminated.

Quality of the competition and supervision

The course of the competition  is observed by a supervisor, who is responsible for:

  • monitoring  the following of guidelines  under the statutes and rules of fair play
  • dealing with complaints and disputes arising during the competition
  • checking  contestant’s data in the application forms
  • assuring  the  quality of conditions for the participants and the jury  is met during the whole competition

 

The supervisor must not interfere in any way with the jury's assessment.

 

 The supervisor of the competition for the year 2017 is Pavol Ďumbala who among others is:

  • Emeritus soloist of the ballet of the National Theatre Prague
  • Director of the Ballet of the Joseh Kajetan Tyl Theatre in Pilsen
  • Director of the State Opera Prague
  • Founder of the ballet preparatory school Terpsichore Prague

 

 

Ballet master

The Ballet Master is conducting classical dance training in the first round of categories A, B and C. Training is not public, but it can be attended by category D contestants and educators from all participating schools.

 

Mgr. art. Igor Holovac - Ballet Master of SND

 

Extremely prominent representative of the classical dance classical performance school, acting actor with a wide variety of pieces of ballet repertoire. Since 1984, he has been a soloist (1990), lead soloist (1993-1997 and since 1999) and since 2004 a ballet master ballet repertory of the Slovak National Theater Ballet in Bratislava. In 2004, he studied choreography at the Department of Dance Production at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts of the Academy of Performing Arts. He appears as an inventive choreographer, performing ballet, opera and drama, Slovak Chamber Ballet, Theater of J.K.Tyla in Pilsen, Jonas Záborský Theater in Prešov, West Theater in Bratislava.

 

For his interpretation and choreography, he gained:

 

  • 2nd Prize for choreography Diskrepancie at the National Choreographic Competition in Bratislava (1988),
  • Prize of the Slovak Literary Fund for the Ballet in 1993 and participation in the final of the international choreographic competition in the Gröningen (1992).
  • The Philip Morris Flower Award in year 1998.

1st and 3rd place for each age group of category D

Holders of the 1st prize in Category A, B and C receive the title The laureate of the competition.
